Welcome to Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts

A volunteer-based organization, the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts (LFMA) organizes an annual event for young people wishing to demonstrate their progress in their respective fields. We are grateful to our business and individual patrons and subscribers.

Congratulations to the following participants in the Ontario Music Festival Association Provincial Competition which took place from June 1st – 6th, 2015 in Peterborough:  Kayla Falkenholt – Grade 9 Piano and Grade 10 Harp, Gregory Lewis – Open Strings, Martina Vaillant – Advanced Music Theatre, Fay Alexander – Intermediate Music Theatre, Jasmine Madeo – Intermediate Music Theatre, Carly Martin – Junior Music Theatre, Natalie St. Jacques – Junior Music Theatre, and Nicole Parisien – Elementary Music Theatre.  A special congratulations to Fay Alexander – 1st in Intermediate Music Theatre, Gregory Lewis – 3rd in Open Strings, Kayla Falkenholt – 2nd in Grade 10 Harp and Carly Martin – Honourable Mention in Junior Music Theatre.

The 2016 Festival season dates are as follows: Dance – April 1 – 4, 2016 and Instrumental   – April 8 – 16, 2016 Registration deadline for dance and instrumental entries is January 9, 2016. The entry forms and syllabus will be available in October for downloading.

Piano, Strings, Guitar, Brass, Woodwinds, Band, Choral, Voice, Ensembles, Dance and Speech Arts are the major categories in which children participate. For more information regarding the fields listed, please visit our syllabus page.

Dawn Sebesta is the current Festival Coordinator responsible for yearly planning and activities. She is supported by a variety of liason individuals who bring a wealth of expertise to the arts as follows: Bernice Cranton, Marg Cupello, Michelle Grant, Denise Krawczuk, Olga Medvedeva, Debbie Anderson, Gillian Sadler and Betty-Ann Luoto.

The Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts Executive is looking foward to a very exciting year with some amazing adjudicators. Information regarding the 2015 Adjudicators will be available at a future date.

Thanks to a $9,300 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts will be able to purchase a portable dance flooring for use by the Festival and local dance studios at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.
