Welcome to Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts

A volunteer-based organization, the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts (LFMA) organizes an annual event for young people wishing to demonstrate their progress in their respective fields. We are grateful to our business and individual patrons and subscribers.

Congratulations to the following musicians and vocalists who attended the Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincials from May 27th to June 3rd, 2017 in Hamilton, Ontario:   Provincial Finalists:  Matthew Bressmer (Grade 6 Piano), Victoria Remus (Grade 7 Piano), Elisa Huang (Grade 7 Piano), Evelyn Davenport (Grade 9 Piano), Eva Seabrook (Grade 6 Strings), Katie Ngo (Grade 6 Voice), Lea Enders (Grade 7 Voice), Carmen Wessel (Grade 7 Voice), Jessica Hayes (Grade 8 Voice & Intermediate Music Theatre), Carly Martin (Grade 9 Voice), Mackinley Harding (Elementary Music Theatre);  Honourable Mentions:  Tienchee Liu (Grade 9 Piano), Sarah Kajorinne (Intermediate Music Theatre), Shea Niemi (Senior Music Theatre), Carly Martin (Open Music Theatre); 1st Place:  Joel Roulthier (Grade 8 Woodwinds – Clarinet).

The 2018 Festival season dates are as follows: Dance – March 22 – 25, 2018 and Instrumental – April 6 – 14, 2018.  Registration deadline for instrumental entries is January 13, 2018 and for on-line dance entries is January 27, 2018.  The entry forms and syllabus will be available in October for downloading.

Piano, Strings, Guitar, Brass, Woodwinds, Band, Choral, Voice, Ensembles, Dance and Speech Arts are the major categories in which children participate. For more information regarding the fields listed, please visit our syllabus page.

Dawn Sebesta is the current Festival Coordinator responsible for yearly planning and activities. She is supported by a variety of liason individuals who bring a wealth of expertise to the arts as follows:

The Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts Executive is looking foward to a very exciting year with some amazing adjudicators.

Thanks to a $9,300 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts will be able to purchase a portable dance flooring for use by the Festival and local dance studios at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.
