Welcome to Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts

A volunteer-based organization, the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts (LFMA) organizes an annual event for young people wishing to demonstrate their progress in their respective fields. We are grateful to our business and individual patrons and subscribers.

The following vocalists and musicians competed in the 2017 Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincials from May 29th through June 4th in Peterborough:  Piano – Victoria Talent, Tienchee Liu & Evelyn Davenport; Music Theatre:  Emily Madeo, Nicole Parisien, Brenna Prouse, Tara Macchi, Piper Rasmussen, Kadie Borody, Carly Martin and Fae Alexander.  Congratulations to all the competitors and to Victoria Talent for placing 3rd in Grade 6 Piano, Nicole Parisien placing 3rd in Junior Music Theatre, and to Evelyn Davenport for receiving an honourable mention in Grade 9 Piano.

The 2017 Festival season dates are as follows: Dance – March 24 – 27, 2017 and Instrumental – March 31 – April 8, 2017.  Registration deadline for instrumental entries is January 14, 2017 and for on-line dance entries is January 28, 2017.  The entry forms and syllabus will be available in October for downloading.

Piano, Strings, Guitar, Brass, Woodwinds, Band, Choral, Voice, Ensembles, Dance and Speech Arts are the major categories in which children participate. For more information regarding the fields listed, please visit our syllabus page.

Dawn Sebesta is the current Festival Coordinator responsible for yearly planning and activities. She is supported by a variety of liason individuals who bring a wealth of expertise to the arts as follows: Bernice Cranton, Marg Cupello, Michelle Grant, Denise Krawczuk, Olga Medvedeva, Debbie Anderson, Gillian Sadler and Betty-Ann Luoto.

The Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts Executive is looking foward to a very exciting year with some amazing adjudicators. Information regarding the 2017 Adjudicators will be available soon.

Thanks to a $9,300 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts will be able to purchase a portable dance flooring for use by the Festival and local dance studios at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.
